Creality K1 vs K1 Max (2026): Which Enclosed CoreXY Makes Sense?
By Leo · Updated 2026-09-06
Creality K1 vs K1 Max: which should you buy?
Buy the K1 Max for the 300 mm bed and the AI LiDAR/camera package — it’s the only K1 with the 300 × 300 × 300 mm chamber, print-failure detection, and auto first-layer scanning. Buy the K1C if 220 mm covers your parts — it’s the same 600 mm/s CoreXY platform at $369 instead of $549, now the standard small K1. The plain “K1” the older comparisons discuss is discontinued: the 2026 lineup is K1C ($369), K1 SE (Creality store, ~$250), and K1 Max ($549, verified live on Amazon), so most of what you’ll read online about this comparison is priced wrong.
Both machines below share the platform that matters: enclosed CoreXY, 600 mm/s rated speed (800 mm/s travel — All3DP’s K1 Max review correctly notes that 800 figure is not print speed), 300 °C hotend, auto leveling.
Creality K1 Max ($549)
Creality
Creality K1 Max
- build volume
- 300 × 300 × 300 mm
- max speed
- 600 mm/s
- enclosure
- Yes
The K1 Max is the “everything” K1: the full 300 mm cube, AI LiDAR that scans the first layer, and an AI camera that watches for spaghetti and detachments. For large props, batch printing, or helmets/cosplay parts, 88% more build volume than the K1C is the entire argument — nothing else in Creality’s line does 300 mm enclosed. The honest counterweight: at $549 it costs $150 more than Bambu’s enclosed P1S, which has the deeper ecosystem — see our P1S review — while matching its 256 mm bed. You’re paying for cube volume and LiDAR, and that’s a legitimate but specific trade.
Creality K1C ($369)
Creality
Creality K1C
- build volume
- 220 × 220 × 250 mm
- max speed
- 600 mm/s
- enclosure
- Yes
The K1C is the original K1’s role, refined: same 220 × 220 × 250 mm chamber, plus the clog-free direct-drive extruder and AI camera the base K1 lacked. Community consensus positions it as the practical Creality enclosed machine — the one actually worth buying in the 220 mm class. It competes most directly with the Elegoo Centauri Carbon at $299 (our review): $70 less gets you the same speed class and a bigger 256 mm bed; the K1C counters with the camera and Creality’s (larger, if rougher) community.
Side by side
| Product | Rating | Build Volume | Max Speed | Enclosure | Buy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Creality K1C | 4.3 (community est.) | 220 × 220 × 250 mm | 600 mm/s | Yes | View |
| Creality K1 Max | 4.3 (community est.) | 300 × 300 × 300 mm | 600 mm/s | Yes | View |
| Bambu Lab P1S | 4.6 (community est.) | 256 × 256 × 256 mm | 600 mm/s | Yes | View |
(Not in the table: the K1 SE, ~$250 via Creality’s own store — an open-door budget variant that undercuts this entire comparison; we reference it in the under-$200 neighbor guide.)
What the spec sheet won’t tell you
- Speed is a wash. 600 mm/s rated on both; real-world difference between them is build volume, not pace. Community timing runs put both machines in the same print-time class as the P1S for typical models.
- The AI features are genuinely useful — on the Max. First-layer LiDAR scanning plus failure detection catches the two failure modes that ruin unattended prints. The K1C’s camera-only setup watches, but doesn’t scan the bed the same way.
- Creality’s firmware is better than its reputation but behind Bambu’s. Long-term community experience on the K1 platform is stable-with-occasional-rough-updates. If you want appliance-like polish, that’s the Bambu tax.
- Both are heavy, enclosed cubes. Plan your shelf: the K1 Max is ~13 kg and needs ventilation clearance for high-temp materials like any enclosed printer.
Decision rule
- Need > 220 mm parts, want failure detection, $550 budget → K1 Max
- 220 mm class, enclosed, $350–400 → K1C (or Centauri Carbon at $299 if budget leads)
- Ecosystem and multicolor path outweigh everything → Bambu P1S territory
- Hard budget cap ~$250 → K1 SE (Creality store) or read under $200
FAQ
Is the Creality K1 Max worth $549?
Only if you need the 300 mm build volume or the LiDAR/camera failure-detection package. At that price it overlaps the Bambu P1S ($399, 256 mm, deeper ecosystem), so the Max is a volume-and-features play, not a value play.
What replaced the Creality K1?
The K1C — same 220 × 220 × 250 mm enclosed CoreXY platform with the clog-free direct extruder and AI camera added. The original K1 is discontinued; current lineup is K1 SE (~$250, store), K1C ($369), K1 Max ($549).
Is the K1 Max faster than the K1?
No — both are rated 600 mm/s print speed with 800 mm/s travel (the 800 figure is travel, not print speed). The Max's advantages are the 300 mm build volume, AI LiDAR first-layer scanning, and the AI camera.
